Characters & Customs

As we go along, we thought we'd share some experiences we've had with the characters we're encountering on the road as well as the interesting customs and traditions we're learning about along the way.

Filipinos don't RSVP. This we learned from a friend we met on the boat home from El Nido, a Filipina herself. She had just thrown a wedding in Manila and had no clue how many to tell her caterer. Having just gone through this, we felt for her. This news made us feel much better about our RSVP situation. Let's just say Dad had a lot of follow up to do.

Korean couples wear matching clothing. We asked about this custom as it was something we were noticing throughout the honeymoon at El Nido. They say it's a symbol of unity whether a relationship is in the courtship phase, newlywed or married for years. A man might wear a pair of flowered swim trunks and his companion will wear the exact same pattern as a shirt. Cute! But I don't think Jake will go for it...
